Badge "Miner's Glory".
Hi,
I received the following order/medal through the post today. Can anyone tell me a bit more about it. I know it says 'Miners Glory' on the front and this is the first class one of a set of three. Does anyone know anything else about these medals? For instance, what you needed to do to obtain each class. I'm also curious to know how many of these were issued, and if they are still being issued today, or what sort of dates they were issued between. Like a lot of soviet medals, it has that wonderful enamel on it, something which makes soviet medals quite attractive to collect. I bought it because I liked it, not really knowing much about it. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks. Kind Regards, Shane Cook. |

I am almost positive that these are post-USSR creations. The one you have posted is for Russia. I own a full set from Ukraine, where the red and blue on the hanger are in the national colors of Ukraine--blue and gold. I haven't learned exactly what deeds one needs to have accomplished to receive the medal, but will try to find out from the guy here from whom I bought the set. I assume it has something to do with meeting quotas instead of saving lives in the mines.

Hello,
I found this picture on the internet and it looks a little different from the other ones, does anyone know what this variation is? Also, does anyone have a scan of the back of one of these or the document? I have seen these in person only once and do not remember what they look like. Is the serial number engraved in the back? Finally, are they still issuing these? I found this article and my Russian is not good enough to understand when this man given these awards. http://www-sbras.nsc.ru/HBC/1999/n46/f4.html Keith |

Erik,
I think the special benefits were exclusive to HSU, HSL and cavaliers of the order of Glory and Labor glory O N L Y . Cavalier of the coal workers is not even CLOSE to order of glory cavalier, and of course not to HSU or HSL.

Eric,
This order is not a Government award, and did not entitle the recipient to any significant benefits, if at all. Alexei |

Miner's glory privledges.
Since it was not a true order or state award there were no state-wide privledges. But I bet there were plenty of privledges for Miners' Glory "cavaliers" since in Soviet times housing, food, etc. for workers was owned and controlled by the state enterprises - the ones who issue the awards. So I would bet that the stories floating around refer to privledges granted by their employer - who is also award issuer, landlord, grocer, etc. Shawn |
