Re: How to display Soviet awards
I like some of the ideas in this thread, so I may put some Orders "on display" apart from hanging them on the wall. Below is an example of how I mount mine in shadow boxes. I hold the items in-place with thin fishing line so it won't damage the items, then I print up some notes and place them in the box by the items. Hard to photograph with the glass though! This is my Lenin, according to the document, it was awarded 20 December 1951. SN 196699.

Well done. Almost museum quality.

Re: How to display Soviet awards
Here's one more of the shadow boxes I use for display. This one has an Order of the October Revolution, issued 15 July, 1976, and an Order of the Badge of Honor, issued 10 June, 1971. Both are listed in the document. cheers/Jim

Re: How to display Soviet awards
Both of these are excellent examples of how to treat an order right.

Re: How to display Soviet awards
Last one...it takes me some time to get a half-way decent photo!
This shadow box holds ORB, OFP,OLG2, OLG3, OG3, and bottom row, ORBL, fake Nevesky, and ORS. Now I have to figure out how to display a "banner/flag", but that's for another day! /Jim |

Re: How to display Soviet awards
I recently added quite a bit to my collection, and since I don't think I will buy more for a while, I thought I would take the entire thing out for a picture. Unfortunately, I don't have anywhere to display it properly yet. Nevertheless, I am proud of it. Not bad for my age, I think.
Sorry the picture isn't that great (I had to decrease the quality quite a bit for the size constraint). Enjoy! Alex |

Re: How to display Soviet awards
Some nice stuff there Alex! Are those a couple of large Polish groups in the upper right corner? Can you show them over in the Polish section (if you haven't already)?

Re: How to display Soviet awards
Alex, an excellent array of awards. You have every right to be proud.
Eric, if I remember correctly he has displayed at least some of the Polish items because I recognize the medal for 10 (X) years of service in the state security and the 20 (XX) years badge for the same. I tracked down a medal like this and bought it after seeing his post with it. http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...rd-groups.html And the similar ones I posted: http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...-doc-help.html Phillip

Re: How to display Soviet awards
Thanks, Eric and Phillip!
As Phillip noted, I have posted the Polish groups before. Hopefully I will have time to start a thread for each of the two big groups. Those have a lot of documents, so I have a lot of scan resizing to do. Phillip, I read your thread about the Polish security badges. I did some research on the MSW and similar organizations after I discovered the recipient of my group was involved somehow. I can't make sense of my old detective work (woops), but I'll review and add what I can. Alex |
