Re: KGB and MVD jackets.

Ok, good, I thought I had missed some huge ID-ing feature since everyone was leaning towards MVD. I personally think that if it were for the shoulder boards I'd say MVD, but for the collar I'd say army.

Looking forward for when you will have them in your hands to take good pics.

Re: KGB and MVD jackets.

Well for fifty bucks including shipping I guess its still a good deal either way? :)

I'm very happy with this, it will be my first KGB purchase as well!

Which is another thing on my mind.
Is this KGB jacket a field uniform? And if so, are there actually KGB field caps?

Yes, it is a field uniform. All buttons and insignia are subdued. Ergo, there should be field caps for KGB, but since all field caps for officers have no piping, it´s OK.
Generals´ field caps are piped, but KGB generals did not wear blue piped uniforms.

Re: KGB and MVD jackets.

Why did the KGB not wear piped uniforms?
Are they that..."secrety"?

And I guess it looks like my next mission is to get a field visor!

I really don´t know why. But those were only generals. There are KGB general uniforms and caps, but they were proved fantasy items, produced after the fall of the USSR for collectors and tourists.

Re: KGB and MVD jackets.

I saw those caps!
I was tempted to order one actually!

Then I found this site literally an hour or so before I was going to buy it and I found a thread stating they were all fakes.

i would like to see the prove for that statement.
the debate on this has been going on for a long wail on and around this forum.
yet there is no prove to verify that it is either fantasy or legit.
im open to any opinion.

--------------------

about the field visor. any field visor for NCO or officer are not pimped.
they are pretty available. they did not change a lot over the m69 uniform period. your uniform looks like an 70's one. the field visors had green visors in that time. later on the visor changed to the plastic one and were commonly blackish.

Officers of the KGB wore royal blue piped parade uniforms and service uniforms with royal blue tabs and rb piped boards.

With the risk of opening a Pandoras Box that has been both opened and closed at this forum, I would like to say that I have seen blue piped KGB generals uniforms for sale, complete with awards and also sold without awards - but I have NOT seen ANYTIME photographic evidence that these uniforms were used nor worn.

I HAVE seen though, KGB generals wearing red piped infantry generals uniforms and I have even owned a complete uniform + photo album set belonging to a a named KGB Lieutenant-General; Petrov.

Re: KGB and MVD jackets.

are we talkin m69 parade or service uniform here?

i just never understand why the kgb generals would have a differed color.

i understand that artillery generals in the 80's wore red piped uniforms.
that would make sence because they are all army force.

kgb was not , so what would be the season behind it ,, and why would mvd have just there own maroon general uniforms ,, and to bring another in , border guard not ?

Re: KGB and MVD jackets.

Yes, I talk about M/69 parade and service uniforms.

I do not know either why another colour was used, perhaps to disguise the highest officials of the state security from assassins? A MVD general did probably not have as much "need-to-be-killed" as a colonel-general of the KGB. If the KGB generals had worn royal blue piped uniforms, they would be pretty easy to spot. This is just my thoughts and not to be taken as facts.
