Re: Restoration project - before

Damn, I never counted it by weeks! I am told any day now, but I'm not holding my breath.

I have another, smaller ( but more interesting), project that might be done as well.

Had the restoration gone well, here is what it should have come out looking like...what an amazing photo! M1943 Generals parade uniform (General of the Army?) being used in a gentlemanly manner.

Uhmm...Doug, I am hesitant to ask, but your first sentence with "had the restoration gone well..." suggests the job is done and not to your satifaction. Is this the one you mentioned that she finally just gave up on (or actually didn't do much to)? In either case, you have my sympathies.:dissapoint

On the plus side, that really is an excellent photo!

Re: Restoration project - before

Doug...
Just FYI....
Years ago I had a beautiful uniform tunic that was absolutely pristine...EXCEPT for a very noticeable hole, about the size of a nickel, right on the front of the tunic.
I took it to an older Italian tailor in my area and showed it to him. He had a woman working for him who did what was referred to as "invisible weaving."
She opened up the lining of the tunic and removed some of the excess material. She then was able (don't ask me how !) to "re-weave" the area of the hole. She then closed the lining.
When I picked up the tunic the tailor had to pint out to me where the hole had been ! It was virtually impossible to detect that it had ever existed or that the interior lining had ever been disturbed.
I don't know if there is anyone around who still knows how to do this, but I thought that I would mention it.

Re: Restoration project - before

Hi Will,

Thanks for the post! Yes, I have looked into this procedure, but it is VERY difficult to find someone who can handle the project. I found one person at a museum who stated it would be quite expensive. Still, it is probably the best route to go.
