Red Star,3397250,Head Of Warehouse,128th Guards Rifle Division,Hungary 1956

Here is a small group which I believe was awarded for action in Hungary. It consists of an Order of the Red Star, nr. 3397250, awarded December 18th,1956, an Order Book to Yuriy Kosarev, and a Medal for Combat Service, T.2, V4 (unnumbered), awarded December 30th, 1956. Research is currently pending to ascertain if my belief is correct, but the dates certainly look right. . .

Short Description of Combat Feat or Accomplishments

The Division’s units were in desperate need for ammunition resupply on 5 November 1956. Senior Technical Lieutenant Kosarev received the mission to take ten submachinegunners and four vehicles to the artillery depot and return with 122mm howitzer ammunition. While en route, Comrade Kosarev was engaged in a vehicular ambush by two machineguns and approximately 30 submachinegunners. Comrade Kosarev ordered his personnel to dismount and fought for five hours. Subsequently he summoned assistance from neighboring units and was able to break the ambush. As a result of his steadfastness and proper conduct of the battle, Comrade Kosarev cleared the road for vehicular passage and as a result, permitted uninterrupted ammunition supply.

Conclusion: For displaying boldness and endurance in the accomplishment of a combat mission, Comrade Kosarev is deserving of the Order of the Red Star.

Signed Commander, 128 Guards Motorized Rifle Division, Guards Colonel Gorbunov on 20 November 1956
Endorsed Commander, Special Corps, General-Lieutenant Lashchenko on 29 November 1956

Nice, Very nice! I came accross ORS #3397249, which belongs as well to the 18.12.56 Edict! Awarded to the Commander of the 73rd Separate Guards Reconnaissance Battalion, 128th Guards Rifle Division.

I'd say that the unnumbered CSM is his 10-year long service award given that it was awarded on a big long service award day at the end of Dec '56 and that he entered service in '46.
