Jubilee Medal "20 Years Of The Fighting Groups Of The Working Class".

Thought I'd share my 20th Anniversary of the Kampfgruppen medal. These are pretty hard to come by- don't understand why, as it is only an anniversary award- but they are. Enjoy!

Is the edge of your medal ragged, i.e. not smooth? Mine appears "unifinished", unlike other other DDR medals and others report the same unifinished appearance on the medal's circumference.

Yes, mine is that way as well. Also, if you look at the reverse image above, you can see that the medal is well worn and complete with more than a couple of dings... or shall we say "character attributes".

DDR awards are well-made as a rule, cheap perhaps, but well made. I've always wondered why this one slipped through quality control.

I've also managed to acquire a few of the medallions (commemorative coins) given by the MfS (Stasi)- some loose, some cased, with the same edge treatment (or lack of treatment).

This medal is not a State award like the other KG medals, but a party medal awarded by the SED. This certainly explain why it's not so common and the "poor" made.
