Help needed to id these items
Would appreciate any help anyone can give in identifying these hats and greatcoat. We are totally new to this and just obtained these and really don't know what they are.
Other photos can be obtained if needed. |

Re: Help needed to id these items
Welcome Ivan,
The hats are for army everyday/service and parade respectively. The great coat has the insignia of an MVD major. The MVD is very roughly equivalent to the FBI. It was/is a national police force and includes the fire brigades as well. If you have any questions about the MVD, just send me a PM or email. Phillip

Re: Help needed to id these items
Hello Ivan,
Welcome to the forum. The first cap is a service cap, circa 1980’s, for an MVD officer. The second cap is a parade cap for an officer in the armor or artillery service of the Soviet Army, also circa 1980’s. The overcoat is for a Major in the MVD...the first cap would go well with it for making a display of an MVD officer of the 1980’s. Email / PM deValcourt for any info you might need on the MVD, he is an expert. DougD |

Re: Help needed to id these items
Doug, are you sure the overcoat is for an MVD major? To me looks like normal red rather than brick red. I have an MVD overcoat and the colors do look different in pictures.

Re: Help needed to id these items
Esteban,
You might be correct; the red looks dark to me, but I could be wrong and it might be the regular army red. I have always found it difficult to differentiate the two reds. DougD |

Re: Help needed to id these items
Upon first seeing it I immediately thought infantry, motor rifle what ever.
But it could be the lighting. Nice coat though. :D And welcome to the forum! |

Re: Help needed to id these items
I'm afraid I can't find any tags or markings anywhere on the coat. Could this mean it's a fake/repro? (not that it really matters to us - its really just to keep his interest). if it is fake someone has gone to a lot of trouble to put in the padding and lining to the upper part of the coat.

Re: Help needed to id these items
I don´t think it is fake: These overcoats are not hard to come by and unissued ones are readily available especailly in the Ukraine. My overcoat has a paper tag lightly sewn just behind the lower right edge. There is another tag in the inside breast pocket.

Re: Help needed to id these items
I doubt it is fake, it would not make any sense to fake these heavy coats. Very few want them, very few will pay any real money for them and they are awfully heavy to ship - not to mention that authentic ones, both used and unused, are still available in good quantities.
