Nakashidze, Evsej Aleksandrovich, Red Army Soldier/Educator

Following the recent trend to expose labour awards here is a Medal "For Labour Valour" group to Evsej Aleksandrovich Nakashidze (Евсей Александрович Накашидзе), a GPW veteran who later became an educator.

His 1978 Badge is "present" but currently misplaced (not difficult to do) but his OPWII #6287530 is AWOL and has been added to the forum database as "wanted".

His first award is a 23rd May 1946 dated Medal "For Victory Over Germany In The Great Patriotic War 1941-1945" signed by a Captain of administrative service in the Molotov region.

Re: Red Army Soldier/Educator Evsej Aleksandrovich Nakashidze.

Here is a congratulatory letter hand signed by the Minister Of Education GSSR which reads;

Which translates as;

"Georgian SSR Teachers' 1st Congress Delegate.

The Presidium Of The Supreme Soviet Of The U.S.S.R. Decree of the 29th August 1960 of education and communism in the spirit of the young generation's education. In the case of significant contribution you are awarded with Medal "For Labour Valour".
Congratulations in this high governmental award and wish you further success in the communist education of the younger generation.
Georgian SSR Education Minister T. Lashkarashvili"

Yes I did transcribe and translate this myself!

BINGO! It is always nice to see a document from outside the "mainstream" of documents that confirms the context of labor awards.

Although I'm not sure I'll ever discern the threshold between the "valiant" and "distinguished" labor medals. Maybe they didn't make sense to the people at the time?

Re: Red Army Soldier/Educator Evsej Aleksandrovich Nakashidze.

It is sad how many of these jubilee OPWs have gone "walkabout" from their groups. Wish we knew more.

I still recall sitting on a plane, from Delhi to New York, back in the days when they made intermediate stops, and a nice elderly Soviet chap got on in Frankfurt, going back to the US (where his family/he lived). He was proudly wearing his newly awarded jubilee OPW1 (wonder how THAT went down with US customs/immigration?). He had been back to the Motherland to receive it and was so proud of it that he wore it the whole way back. I chatted with him (in German, our only common language -- he had been an unwilling guest of the Hitlerites during the GPW). Wish I remembered more of those conversations.

Re: Red Army Soldier/Educator Evsej Aleksandrovich Nakashidze.

According to the "site" "Evgen" Aleksandrovich Nakashidze was awarded a OPWII on 6th April 1985 by Suhumi, Abkhaz ASSR, Georgian SSR. It also gives his date of birth as 1912.

This doesn't really line up with all the previous Tbilisi awards nor the high number of #6287530 but this may be due to administrative errors at any point in the procedures of awarding, recording and transferring information to the "site".

There is also a possibility that this is a brother, Evsej and Evgen? but this wouldn't account for the lack of entry for Evsej.

Time will tell.
