Union Of Working Youth.

Union of Working Youth (Hungarian: Dolgozó Ifjúság Szövetsége, DISZ) was an organization for Hungarian youth between 14 and 26 years. It existed from 1950 until 1956, at which time it was dissolved due to involvement in counter-revolutionary activities. In 1957 it was reorganized into the Hungarian Young Communist League (KISZ). Here are a couple of DISZ membership badges, one large and one small, both pin backed, along side a KISZ membership badge. During it's tenure, membership in DISZ would, frankly, decide one's success... university admission depended on it, membership "opened doors", etc. Note the similarity to the Soviet VLKSM badge.

Re: DISZ

Through a friend in Hungary, I came across this poster. It shows, at the top, M. Rakosi before the flag of the Hungarian Workers' Party and, below that, young people before the DISZ flag. Beautiful example of propaganda of the day (1948-1956).

Re: DISZ

Yes, it is interesting that, like the Scouting badges of the capitalist countries, there is some design similarity in different States. The Mongolian ones are similar.

Beautiful colors and such pastoral imagery.:thumbsup And the symbolism is so subtle.

I think the difference here is in the irony that though the Scouts are not a corporation per se, they are supported largely by corporations of those "capitalist countries." I'm surprised the NFL didn't slap a Cease and Desist Order on them for using the fleur de lis symbol after the Saints won the Superbowl (they tried it on everybody else).:thumbsdown

I don't think I've seen the Mongolian version of the VLKSM/DISZ badge (if somebody has posted one or wants to do so in the Mongolian section, just PM me with a link so we can try to stay on the Hungarian topic here - despite my bad example:D).
