Re: Fake Medals "For Combat Merits"
Sergio,
From what I can see, the suspension looks OK although I can't recall yellow-colored nuts; the screwplate is a fake. Now, regarding the medal itself, I am 99.99% certain that it never hung from this suspension until such (very!) recent time as some speculator attempted to raise the monetary value of this lot. Re: Fake Medals "For Combat Merits"
Thank you Marc. It seems then another messed up set... The medal comes with a booklet dated May 19,1946 and awarding date July '43 (with a nice picture of the awardee).
I suppose that your doubts on the the suspension pairing with the medal is because the serial number 495k is out of range for T1 suspensions. Does it mean that this medal was distributed with a different suspension, or mounted on a T1 suspension and never awarded? I notice that the sword's handle is well rounded, as expected in an early type of Combat Merit. sergio |

Re: Fake Medals "For Combat Merits"
Sergio,
I believe that this medal was awarded on a 5-sided suspension. Marc |

Re: Fake Medals "For Combat Merits"
This is a nice CS (I love the way the ring is soldered) with a counterfeited serial number.
With such a serial, it should be a T1 and this is not, looking at the sword handle. |

Medal for "Combat Service"
Hey friends
Do you think this medal for combat service (from 1957) is :thumbsup or :thumbsdown? I suspect the upper side of it has been restored - since no wearing out marks are on the upper side, contradictorily to medal condition (However the medal is post-war, and quite "new") Your opinion will be highly appreciated |

Re: Fake Medals "For Combat Merits"
I don't know how the date "1957" comes up without the supporting document. These later examples were primarily awarded for 10 years long service.
This is a genuine example that I would see selling for $20 or less without the document.

Re: Fake Medals "For Combat Merits"
It has a voenkomat type ring so I guess it could have been issued around 1960s-80s.
It is normal that the obverse has very little wear marks. It is possible to find wartime medals in a very good condition. It all depends on how the medal's life. |
