Alexei,
Can you say what exactly you think makes this badge fake besides the enamel? Thanks! Rusty.

I'm having a discussion regarding this badge with it's owner. The owner does admit that the enamel is not original!
The file is full size to preserve all details! Alexei: What do you think? This is what the owner of this badge provided: http://images7.fotki.com/v157/photos...npieces-vi.jpg http://images7.fotki.com/v158/photos...4pieces-vi.jpg

Rusty,
Many thanks for a better scans, now we can talk about it. This is what I find unusual about this badge: all figures are rather crude and not very detailed, they almost look worn, but there is no evidence of wear; smaller figures are way too scatchy; all inscriptions are huge and fat, especially on the banner, gear weel, and the "APCEHAL"; chimneys are very fat, curved, and short, and the two larger ones do not touch the star's edge; rifle, that the guy with the banner is holding, is especially bad - the barrel should not be straight, but rather resemble an ancient musket; the weel at 7 o'clock position should be a little smaller and more round; Arsenal windows were not that nice on the original badge and the roof of the building was more detailed; small dome on the Arsenal tower (near the banner) is completely missing; banner has a very weird curve above the worker's head. I can go on, but you get the idea. I am not even mentioning the patina or enamel. Alexei |

Alexei,
Thank you! I think that your answer puts an end to this subject. Rusty.

Rusty,
I have found this one in one of the dark corners of my hard drive. I have most likely found it on the Internet. The scan is too dark, but the badge looks good. Alexei |

Military ID
Could I get an opinion please? Seems the stamp stops because of the border of the document. Thanks.

It looks convincing to me.
Maybe the two pages were filled out and stamped, then glued into the booklet OR the middle spine without ink became abraded over time, but it would be hard to explain the existence of stamping on either edge of the spine. Do you have this item or are you just showing a picture? Maybe the raised middle spine is just an optical illusion and it is actually a depression? Wierd. |
