Your first expensive order/medal
I wounder what your first "big buy" was...
I am thinking about those order that cost 200$ and more. I sold some things now and i have about 900$ to buy some thing fore, of course is it goaing to be a soviet order or a group. I´m thinking on a Alexander Nevskji order but there are some intressting medal groups out on the net too. By the way, if you know some webpages with good prices and quality that sells soviet order etc feel free to PM me the link, i think I got most dellers webpages but you can never be shure...

My first purchase in 200+ USD class was a Order of Friendship of Peoples with document. It was purchased from a forum member here a few years ago, and it was a very smooth and nice transaction!

Fredrik,
That is hard to say. Mahdi has many personal matters offline which need his attention. He emailed me a few weeks ago and apologized for his absence on the forum and hoped he'll be able to come back soon. Art

Mine has to be the Hero of Socialist Labour - I liked the fact it was 24ct gold, plus I liked the hammer and sickle on the star. $300, or maybe $350 I think I paid for it.
Kind Regards, Shane Cook. |

Not being a big orders and medals person my first big buy was a uniform - specifically a 1980s Lt. General's service uniform (hat, tunic, pants and belt). I think I paid $250 (this was in 1994 or so) and was super proud of it. I sold it years ago.

Thoughts on Purchase
There are a lot of possibilities out there for a big purchase.
If you've been saving for a while, I would suggest looking through your collection and thinking about a piece you've been waiting for. That's just a small collector talking. My first big purchase was a documented group to a WWII veteren. It had several orders and medals with the documents. I really enjoy seeing a "portrait" of a person's life. Also, though, I've been waiting some time to look into an A. Nevski or Order of Lenin. Just make sure you take your time and get something you will truly enjoy. -Sean

My first big purchase was Order of Lenin, although at the old prices I only paid $275 shipped!!! Next big purchase was Order of Nevsky followed shortly by Suvorov 3. Last two were purchased from a fellow board member whom later sold me a killer Khmelnitsky 2 at old prices.
Now that I think about it, I only made 1 big purchase outside our sand box, everything else I aquired from comrades here Rusty.

Re: Your first expensive order/medal
Paying more than $200 for a group rather than an individual item is more like the normal situation now but for a single piece (with or without the document) it is still quite a rarity.
I think my first $200+ item was the Bulgarian Order "13 Centuries Of Bulgaria" and I have since gone on to add another Order, Three Titles, a Medal and a Badge to the "over $200" selection (although two were gifts). Three of which include the original document. There are also Three $200+ DPRK items too. As for Soviet "individuals" I've not yet found anything reasonable enough to commit to, although I do have a number of groups that cost $200 and above. I think this suggests that even without the larger layouts anyone can gather a fantastic collection if enough effort is applied. There are still bargains out there - especially if you put the effort in to do your own research.

Re: Your first expensive order/medal
My first of the expensive was a Liberation of Belgrade medal, though it cost slightly less than 200$.
If you are a serious Soviet collector, there are lots of items over 200$ for you to get. For example, Sevastopol, Odessa, Belgrade, Partisan medals cost over 200$ each. And there are different variations too. I pretty much collect only medals. I can only imagine how much more money is needed to collect orders |
