1st Bashir Cavalry Regiment Banner.

One of the things that got me into collecting the flags of the Russian Civil War were the really odd and unusual designs that came about.

One small subsection of these flags were standards of Islamic units that fought with the Reds.

This first example is for the 1st Bashkir Cavalry Regt. of the First Bashkir Division. This unit actually fought in Petrograd before being moved to central asia in 1920.

Note the islamic green color of the flag, the cresent moon, and red star. Islamic symbols such as this were done away with by 1922-1924.
