Public Security Medal.

This is a Police Medal issued for Protecting Public Safety. It was awarded in three classes Gold, silver and bronze.
Shown is the 1st Class.

Public Security Medal.

And last, for now, my personal favorite- a Public Security Medal, Silver grade, document from 1964:

Well you know that makes two of us.:D I'm working on getting a set of those myself. Are we talking AVH or AVO at this point?

I've always liked the Hungarian awards. They are tasteful, in my opinion.

You know I posted that last one especially for you, Phil :D!!!

Actually, my approach to these will be (they're already on the way from the "old sod") is a Gold AVH, the Silver police (the one above), and a Bronze AVO (Border Guard). The reason for this is that the only difference in these awards is the ribbon- that's it.

Now that I have your attention, I'll be posting some more goodies from the Hungarian end of things soon, and there are a few Security items in the mix. But, I just got in from cutting the west field and there's an episode of True Blood that I have to get to.

It's a '60's Public Security Medal, Silver grade, with ribbon in case. Note the police insignia at the base of the star. These came in Gold grade (25 years) and Bronze grade (5 years) as well. The Silver grade was to be given for 15 years or an exceptional act. In it's history, it was never given for an exceptional act. The only difference between the equivalent medal for the Karhatalom (AVH -State Security- members functioning as police) and the Border Guard is the ribbon colour/design; the actual medals are the same.

Re: Hungarian Security

This will probably be my final Public Security Medal. It is a Tildy period (coalition government/no Socialist symbols) Bronze grade. Note the year of conception (1947) and the Hungarian Mint mark (small triangle) on the back. This is rare.

Re: Any Hungarian speakers help w/this?

Paul,

That is a document awarding the Public Security (Police) Medal, Gold Grade to what appears to be a Georgian (at least from the name) in 1978.

I've included an image of the medal itself.

Greg

Re: Public Security Medal.

Hello, we can consider this is roughly a Police merit medal.
