Award Citation

As a Section Crewmember on KTSh-808, 2nd Red Banner D.K.T.Shch., 1st Brigade of Minesweepers OVPa, Lu.V.M.B., Red Banner Baltic Fleet, Petty Officer 1st Class Kochetkov, Petr Korneevich,

Is recommended for the Ushakov Medal.

1. Year of Birth: 1920.

2. Nationality: Russian.

3. Social Background: White Collar.

4. Party Membership: Member of the VKP/b/.

5. From which time in the RKKA or RKVMF: From Sept. 1940.

6. Any Service in the Civil War: Did not serve.

7. Wounds or Contusions: Heavily shrapnel wound in stomach and leg during enemy air attack during the 1942 Campaign.

8. Earlier awards received, when and for what: For Military Minesweeping in the 1941-42 Campaigns and for saving the Kater.

9. What incentive for earlier awards and for what: The Order of the Red Banner, the American Order “For Distinguished Service,” and the Medal “For the Defense of Leningrad.”

10. Service in the White or any other bourgeois army or as a prisoner: Did not serve and not captured.

11. Permanent address: Field Post 20892-M.

I. Short, Concrete Explanation of Military Display or Merit.

On 9 July, while conducting military minesweeping in the Gulf of Vyborg, the Kater was fired upon by a Finnish shore battery and suffered a direct hit from a shell which started a fire in the engine compartment and also ignited fuel that leaked through the holes.
Kochetekov courageously and steadfastly fought the fire, saved the property of the Kater and helped his wounded comrades. He remained on the Kater until the fire was extinguished and saved the Kater, which returned to base under its own power.
He deserves the State Award of the Ushakov Medal.
