In January, 1944 a group of scouts under the command of squad commander Guards Sergeant Timofeyev, numbering 5 men, was given orders to advance 25 kilometers deep into the enemy defenses in the direction of the villages of Konelskiye Khutora, Koshno Poniyevka, Poniyevsky vyselok, Konelo Tsibermanova, Tsibermanova greblya, Shukai voda, Krasnostavka, Dobra, and Nesterovka, to determine the order of battle of the enemy forces and the concentrations of enemy forces, and to take a prisoner deep in the enemy defenses. The mission was carried out succesfully. Having gathered valuable information, many documents, and taken a prisoner, the scouts returned to their base area without any losses. When passing the village of Tsibermanova greblya, comrades Shulga and Ishchenko were given orders by Guards Sergeant Timofeyev to sneak into the village and determine the number of Germans, supply units, and vehicles located in the village. When they approached the village comrades Shulga and Ishchenko unexpectedly spotted a German patrol, which was unaware of their presence. The scouts took the patrol off guard, captured valuable documents, and, having reconnoitered the village, turned around. He deserves the Order of the Red Star.
