Cosmonaut's white uniform

I saw that Gagarin had white uniform, that does not fit to my references. Any ideas?

I have a Sotheby's catalogue devoted to Soviet space auction they held, and in it there is AOTHER white ubiform to a cosmonaut, Yuri V. Malyshev.

It is described as: "Officer's summer dress worn on his Indian tour after the Soyuz T-11 Soviet-Indian flight in 1984".

So, I think that those white uniforms for cosmonauts wereissued for their trips to "exotic" countries, like India, Egypt etc.

I would hazard an educated guess and say that this was a tailor made unform for Gagarin. The official uniform regulations of that era do not state that there was a white uniform for Air force and army officer ranks - Navy yes, armed forces, no.
It is a shame that he is not wearing a cap as I would like to know if their was a white cap worn with this uniform.
Also, as Gagarin was an ambassador for the USSR he could probably have that uniform made for him and wear it without recriminations from the general staff...

I have to agree with you Tal, I can't imagine this being anything more than a custom tailored job for his trips.

I guess we have to put Cosmos up with marshals as a group that could get away with stretching the regs!

I learned his name right after I learned moma!

My school had a bust and a display plaque with some info!
