Il'jashenko, Kirill Ivanovich, Rifleman, 1142nd Rifle Regiment, 340th Rifle Division
This is my first modest group. I've had an idea to try and restrict my collecting to combat awarded ORS, naturally I look mainly for sub 800k serial numbers.
Then I saw this little group awarded to Kirill Ivanovich Il'yashenko. Two Medals for Bravery and a Red Star. I figured it would be a reasonable assumption that his ORS, sn 1633027 followed his 2 Bravery medals and would also be a combat award. Research will follow in due course. Kiril 3.sm.jpg ORS Kirill.xs.jpg ORS rev.kiril.xs.jpg part 2 next.

B book 1.jpg
Book 2.jpg kiril names.jpg So there they are, my first little group :) I have no idea why the two books, nor indeed what front or when it was all happening for Kiril Ivanovc. Any observations and suggestions, as always, most welcome. Cheers!

Re: Kirill Ivanovich Il'jashenko
Here is the full sheet for his Red Star and a citation for a single of his Medals "For Bravery". Although all the information should be listed on podvig (and all three awards are listed), this is the all that is retrievable at the moment. Technical problems come and go on he site due to sheer scale. For the price no-one can complain!
A Ukrainian who was handy with his weapon.

Re: Kirill Ivanovich Il'jashenko
The place of that fight may also be identified.
There are 3 villages by the name Pielgrzymowice in Poland (the name can be neither Czech, nor Slovak). One didn't have that name before the end of the war, so it can be ruled out. The second one is in the Lesser Poland, however, I don't think there was any fighting around there at that time. The third one is in the Upper Silesia and there was some heavy fighting in 1945 (I have found an information of a school building there destroyed during the fights in 1945. It is close to the current border with Czech Republic. Even tough the Germans used the name Pilgrimsdorf, the polish name was in use befor the war and thus it is likely that Soviets would use this name. Anyway - a nice group. Re: Kirill Ivanovich Il'jashenko
You didn't show the dates the booklets were filled out, but the medal booklet (with Courage #1527048) must have been issued before the order booklet. The recipient most likely handed in the temporary certificates for his second Medal for Courage and his Red Star at a later date, and since a Red Star cannot be entered into a medal booklet, he was given an order booklet for his Red Star and his second Medal for Courage.

Hi Auke, thanks as ever. :thumbsup
Both are catch up's. Medal for Courage alone was dated 1948. While Red Star and Medal for Courage were 1947. Here are some full scans. Cheers, Ade.
