M43 Gymnasterka for enlisted men
Hello everybody. In the first place let me wish you all a good (collecting) New Year.
Can somebody tell me more about the (GPW) M43 Gymnasterka for the enlisted men (without breast pockets)? Until when is this variant without breast pockets produced? What are the visible differences between a war produced example and a (early) post war variant than? |

M43 tunic
Thanks for your replies. The sketches are very interesting Vvadim. I am in the possibility to buy a M43 gimnasterka/sharovari for the enlisted men. Hereby a few pictures of the tunic. What can be said of it? The stamps on one of the pictures give me the idea that it is a post war stamp. April 1947 perhaps? What about the lining of the tunic?

Asjemenou,
It is a size 32 "Rost" 2 (that is, pretty small) from April 1947. Marc |

depot stamps
Like you wrote Lapa, the size of the M43 uniform is (too) small. That is the reason why I don’t buy it. I have understood that the stamps in the picture are post war depot stamps (quartermaster) from a Soviet military base. The stamps are no manufacturer stamps.
The uniform is a GPW/WWII tunic but it is later in 1947 marked with these stamps. |

What do you mean by "depot stamps"? The stamps you show were made at the factory. Marc |

Warehouse stamps
A collector of Soviet militaria wrote me that the stamps are post war military warehouse stamps. This is what he wrote me;
The stamps on that tunic are not maker's stamps (not factory), it's depot's stamps - made by military base warehouse much more later. Usually depots stamped them if original stamps were bad visible or tunic came to unit warehouse without any stamps at all. So, I am are sure that tunic was produced earlier than 1947. More important to note that the gymnasterka's model and material/cloth is ww2. The tunic is 100% WW2 type of cloth, also typical ww2 construction/model. So, I can say it's ww2 gymnasterka with later stamped depot's stamps. NB! You can also look at the original factory stamps how they should look like (look at the attached file). It's a big square with a size, year and factory name. Your stamps is just depot stamps (only numbers and letters) made after the war, but the tunic is 100% correct ww2 gymnasterka. He also sends me a picture of a Soviet-Russian factory stamp. By the way, this collector is not the person who is selling this Gymnasterka. Do you think this statement of this collector is not right Lapa? If so, please let me know. |

Asjemenou,
As far as I know, you can find either the square type of stamp (sort of all in one) or some separate stamps like the ones you show, but I have never heard of these being "warehouse" stamps before. I have always been told that they were factory stamps. Marc |
