Sub Commander

Got both sub- and division commander badges today. There's probably many versions of both?

Here's the golden one first. Weird screwplate and definite tinkering with the screw itself. Seems it has been shortened.

Would like opinions!

... and the silver one. The screw on this one is twice the length of the golden one, and most definitely has been resoldered. Again, the screwplate is iffy.

Opinions?

Re: A few badges of interest.

Stahanov,

I think both are OK, screwplates are replacements.

Re: Submarine Badge

Yes, you are right. These badges are Soviet Submarine Commander Badges. If I remember right, these badges were founded in the year 1943 and awarded till 1991.

There are two types of badges. Silver ones and gold ones.
The silver one is for a commander of a single submarine and the gold one is for a commander of a fleet of submarines.

best regards
Andreas

Re: Submarine Badge

I´ve seen submarine badges with hammer and sickle superimposed in the star on E. Did these exist or they´re just fantasy pieces?

Re: Submarine Badge

Esteban,

submarine badges with hammer and sickle are the first version of the badge and they are very very rare. I think they were awarded from 1942 to 1943.

best regards
Andreas

I see. So the pieces I saw are definitely copies.
There are also some ones without the star floating around. Any light on these?

Re: Submarine Badge

I’m agreeing. You have to be very careful with buying this kind of badges, as “submarine commander” or “For distant crusade”, too many copies at this time. The problem is that the Moscow souvenir company produced now these badges as souvenirs and you can buy it in any book or souvenir store for 25 cents. If you didn’t keep in your hands real original badge before, don’t risk buying. On shown picture I can’t see anything, especially back side with nut. For example, look at this link. Package of 100 badges for 1000 rubles = $30
