The two is for second level.
This is confusing because it can mean two different things depending on the badges. Here is what I think, but maybe Alexei can help. On sportsmen badges is would mean 2nd razryad or 2nd place - in other words not as good as 1st place. Likewise, on 1960s-80s military proficiency badges the 2 comes under 1 and M level. But, I think that for old qualification badges like this one and like the Voroshilov's rifle badges it is 2nd "stepen" and is actually higher than the standard 1st stepen. It is definitely much rare to see II on these badges. I think it means the receipeint reached a higher level of proficiency. Shawn |

Four Osoaviakhim Badges
Here are two badges that I bought recently. The Oso badges are an interesting area to collect. I'd like to see what others all you members have.

These aren't too rare, but I like them. I have others back home. These are ones I have purchased recently here in Tbilisi. The one on the left is the miniature version, which I didn't own before. The one on the right is a conversion to screw-back, interesting in its own right.
Does anyone know if there is a miniature of the "2", or second level, badge? I have a "2" in the standard-sized variant. I'm not sure how many variations of this badge exist. I think that there is a true screwback, at least in the basic variation, but I haven't seen one in person. Any others? |

Hello,
I agree also that this document is not the official badge document, does anyone have a scan of what this document should look like? This is a problem I am running into more and more, the membership card for the association that issued the badge is being passed off as the actual award document. But I suppose that in some cases, the membership card for the association may be all that the recipient got. Does anyone have any examples of this? Thanks, Keith |

Keith,
Documents for these badges were often printed locally, so there is a tremendous multitude of variations - from near luxury hard cover booklets to large printed certificates, and even irregular pieces of paper with typed text. Alexei |

Hey Tom
Thanks for sharing. That is a really nice combo. I have never seen the document before. I have seen a couple of society membership booklets but never a documented award. A very nice addition to any collection. Got any others? Chuck In Oregon Currently, Chuck In Tbilisi (Again) |
