Russian cap made by Robert Lubstein
Hi,
I have a Russian side cap made by Robert Lubstein in 1948. It reflects the same standards as the caps he made for the Third Reich. It is also an interesting souvenir of the Soviet occupation of Berlin. I found the soldier's name and unit up under the sweatband. Can anyone translate this? Thanks, Eddie |

Looks like "Sortavala M.G.N. 16.9.63"
Sortavala can be a surname (altough somewhat unusual). No idea about the abbreviation and the date. |

I'm more inclined to think that M.G.N is the name of the guy.
Sortavala is a city, in the Karelia rep. on lake Ladoga.

You will most likely be right then. This Sortavala looked so slavic, that I could swear it is a surname (I even had a friend with a very similar name). But now I would bet it has finnish origin...

To me it looked baltic from the beggining though.
