To all:

While I certainly concur with DougD in this instance, one should be careful when making generalized statements about the originality of Soviet cloth items to be seen on E. As DougD and I both know from personal experience, there are instances of rare, original "jewels in the rough" that can be procured there. Unfortunately, they just don't appear all that often. Keep your eyes open!

E

I was speakeing of the modern, put together uniforms that show up on e-bay in bulk (like this one) that can be and are usually messed with. My comment was not saying that all E items are fake, but as I stated, you need to know what you are looking at and do not buy the write up of the seller.

However, i would agree that nice items can show up on E but it is very rare and you need to know what you are looking for. Also, there are far too many 'nice' items on E that are outright fakes (and tend to be sold by 1 or 2 well known 'dealers').

Very funny Jeff. :dissapoint

The flash turned the red into purple, not blue. I asked the seller he said its the flash. This should be genuine except the collar tabs. According to him, "late period soviet armor collar tabs were red with tank on them" (not exact words, rough translation) Not sure if this was true?

It just looked interesting. I would never pay 850 RMB for a uniform I doubted was authentic plus 100 RMB shipping. The guy said it was a formal uniform? I think he meant mess uniform. Did soviet union have mess uniform?

They become a mess when collartabs and insignias are mixed in the wrong way.

:laff just like this one

I suppose the seller put in mess/formal uniform on purpose so he would not be misrepresenting to english speakers?

By the way, 58 aeroflot cap

Yes, guess so. The uniform used at parades is formal. I do not exactly know the purpose of the mess uniform, other than...formal occassions such as dinners?

I know nothing about aeroflot caps, they are nice...the leaves on the visor seems to have been put there for fun and nicer appearance though.

So the formal uniform was parade uniform? They wore parade uniform to dinners? Must be really humiliating having your order of lenin dip into your borscht.

The aeroflot cap is supposed to have leaves i think.
