I found this picture in the MMD web site. we can see craftsmen at work (from 1999 the mint cast parts for...gold watches):

From the web site: (http://www.mint.ru/)

The Moscow Mint began to produce state awards of the USSR during the World War II. Today the Mint produces many state awards of Russia as well as orders and medals for some foreign states. The artists of the enterprise participate in creation of new awards both for Russia and for other contries. The orders are produced of gold and silver using hot enamels and gilting.

The history of coinage started in the second half of the 15-th century , when the common for all principalities monetary system began to form in Russia. The unified coin that was struck in Moscow because a symbol of consolidation of Russian lands. Even in the 18-th century when the capital was transferred to Petersburg, several mints continued to work in Moscow. The Moscow Mint was founded in 1942 not far from the places in the capital, where historically coins have been produced.

Today the Moscow Mint is a state enterprise, working in the system of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation.

Every year the Moscow Mint produces hundreds types of badges, decorations using enamel and galvanic covering, as well as emblems and original souvenir production, cases for visit cards of non-ferrous metals, silver and gold with individual engraving.Every year the Moscow Mint produces hundreds types of badges, decorations using enamel and galvanic covering, as well as emblems and original souvenir production, cases for visit cards of non-ferrous metals, silver and gold with individual engraving.
