Re: MVD School/Academy Badges.
Greetings;
This badge is the MVD Higher Political Academy (VPU) graduation badge circa 1970s. School was exclusively for training of correctional officers for prisons and labor camps. Each department has a badge of its own design accounting for the various versions. I believe the first star you show, with the green shield, red star and white star border is for the Border Guards. At least that was what I was told when I purchased it a few years ago. Tom |

Re: MVD School/Academy Badges.
Wow, sounds exciting! So is this a genuine badge and does it have much of a value? Thank you!

Re: MVD School/Academy Badges.
Official issue? It is listed and shown, along with variations in Rogov' "History of Award and Insignia of Russian MVD 1802-200". Shown on page 376. Book is is Russian so takes me some time to translate just a little. Indicates possibly devised by faculty/staff for individual dept.
Not extremely rare as they come by occasionally. Cost around $20. All of this being said. I would still lend some weight to Desantnik. He is the moderator, and undoubtedly far more experienced, and informed than I. By the way, one of my screw plates has T-K across the top and uhendus (with the double dots over the first u) across the bottom. Screw posts on both my examples are thin, as yours. |

Hey Tom,
Would it be possible to scan that page from your book and post the picture of this badge? I'd love to see it, thank you! Here is a follow up on this badge. It is glass enamel and uses the typical soviet red enamel with those tiny black specs in the enamel. If it was just a fantasy piece, would someone go to this extreme for fun? Just a thought! |

Re: MVD School/Academy Badges.
Jane,
Has taken me some time, but I think I have what you want. Hopefully I didn't screw it up somewhere in the process. Tom |
