Shawn,

That's why I asked if this was the official badge document, the badge is pictured, but I do not see where it is mentioned specifically in the document. It seems like the documents for some badges are not very specific, but if the badge is illustrated, I usually assume that it is the proper document. Is this a safe assumption?

Guys,

It is still the right document. There was also a badge issued to the "liquidators" by Leningrad Military Region, which came with a document without any picture of the badge or any mention of it whatsoever. It is also not unusual for the Soviets to award badges to those who already have a certain document, for instance, a Partisan pin, that was given in the 1990s to those who already had Partisan IDs, issued in the 1950s and 60s.

I thought I'd revive this old thread and post this photo of an Air Force Captain (I think) wearing his Chernobyl Badge.

Chernobyl Disaster Medal/Badge

Not sure if this is classified as a medal or a badge (please let me know) but since it was two part, I put it in the medals thread. Does anyone know what this was for? I know "liquidator for Chernobyl catastrophe". Does that mean the the person helped clean up the site?
Thanks!
Barb

Eric, very nice collections, especially the medals (well, I like medals better than badges :o).
I did not realise there were so many medals issued - makes it an interesting collecting area:thumbsup

It was added. These medals are not numbered.

Re: Chernobyl disaster medal

I have seen a numbered piece before. I don't know if it was a local initiative or an attempt to increase the medal's value, but they do exist.

Alexei
I agree with you. There are medals with numbers.
But they are not officially numbered medals.
