Order Of Courage.

This is the Order of Courage of Russian Federation.
It was instituted on March 2, 1994.

Awarded in one class to the civilian and military for deeds of courage and self-sacrifice while saving life, protecting public order, fighting crime, fire, flood, etc., as well as for acts of bravery in military or civilian service. The order roughly corresponds to the Soviet Red Star Order and the Order for Personal Courage. The Medal for Life Saving is the lower medal grade of the order.

Yes, I remember that piece. It did have the orders book and issue box but the seller wants $850 for it!

A fair market price for one would be between $200 and $350 depending on the condition and orders book.

That's the one. I don't know if it ever sold. Just can't find Russian Federation Orders and Medals as commonly as Soviet ones. Maybe because there is a lack of knowledge of the value for them? Commonly faked? This Order of Courage is very nice, that's for sure.

I have seen them selling for $500 to $600 now. If you can get one for $200 take it.

The thing that always worries me about these is the ability for unethical people to get the award books and put the book and medal together. I wonder if there's any way to research these???

A Russian colonel I knew was awarded one of these for his services as an observer for the 1st House of Military Ministers in Chechnya in 1996. They had a good number of pictures of the presentation of the award, which was quite impressive! The colonel gave me his uniform when I left Russia, but I didn't get the medal. Darn! :D

The collectabily of the Russian Federation awards is a risky proposition. There is no good book or site for that matter and almost all awards are heavily faked. Alot of dealer refuse to carry these because of high number of fakes versus real awards.

Rusty,

I believe genuine pieces now cost about $300-400 "over there".

I have seen a LOT of faked medals, some of them had weekly stamped "EC" on the back.

Alexei,

Thanks! I guess I got a great deal on mine!
I was offered a complete set but for about $750 (Doc+Order+Box) but felt it was a bit too much...

This (Russian Federation awards) is something new to me but I'm having a blast collecting and trying to track down pieces. I'll be puting some more pieces in this section in the coming days!

Rusty.

P.S. I do agree on the fakes! I've been offered & shown so many fakes of Russian federation awards that it scares you!!!
Believe it or not but according to some Russian collectors, the medal for 300 years of St. Petersburg is close to impossible to locate!
