With a mortar batalion since 13th October 1944.
In the battles against the German Invaders, proved himself to be a bold, brave warrior. During combat from 13th January 1945 to 15th April 1945 his vehicle had excellent condition, except for during the fighting near the city of Székesfehérvár. In carrying out operational orders Comrade Gergaja came under heavy enemy artillery fire, after which the vehicle was damaged. Risking his life Comrade Gergaja, in the shortest time, repaired the malfunction and delivered the anti-tank ammunition on time.
Worthy of being awarded the governmental award Medal "For Bravery".
