Questions on a 1star General Parade uniform

I bought this uniform for $310.- on E, sold as one from the 80s. After examination the cap is obviously an unissued piece but I was amazed that the date on the buttons of the tunic was 1963 (the uniform has traces of wear).

Here are some questions to which I'd like to get answers...

1) Is there anyway that this uniform could be not a "put-together"? :)
2) Were the caps in the 60s-70s very different from the caps made in the 80s?
3) Could this uniform have been worn in the 80s or a did a General automatically receive a new uniform according to the regulations?
4) There are some holes for the mounted medals on the tunic and the medals have been worn horizontally (same as the 1988 regulations). But the medals should not have been worn like the regulations from the 70s? (scan below).

uniform

Its a nice uniform and you got it for a good price. While its possible that the Major General wore this uniform in the 1980's (it is a nice mid-cold war example; the buttons dated 1963 could have been used years later, so the uniform itself might be closer to 1970) and then got a new hat that he did not wear, its much more reasonable to assume that the hat was added by the seller to a nice tunic/pants combo to make a "set". Its still a good set though.

Thanks for your answer! :)

And after a better examination this uniform seems to have been "converted" in order to respect the new regulations, because I just saw other holes for the orders and medals on the tunic and they are in diagonal (as shown on the scan from the old regulations).

Very intersting!

As soon as this uniform will be completed I will post a scan, just for plesure...

Speaking of the 1970s regulations, does anyone know where scans of it might be located?

Whats is the difference between 1970's and 1980's regulations?

parade

For generals parade uniforms pretty much there is no difference ( unless i am missing something obvious), though you do see the parade caps getting larger in the peak.-DD

As far as I have ever been able to tell, whether medal bars were worn horizontally, row over row, or following the line of the lapel as in German civilian "Frackspange" medal bars (with senior ribboned awards worn variously Top Down or Bottom Up) was always purely a matter of personal taste.

In the same way, I have often seen NO medal bars being worn, each piece slapped on haphazardly individually. Yuck!!!!

In original official personnel file photos, I mean, not being sold as eBay clutter.

Laurent,

It seems that you got a pre-1969 jacket here: boards with silver star, lapels. Just to make sure, pleae check the embroidery on the cuffs; on a genuine pre-69 model, the embroidery goes around the cuff, then down to the opening.

Marc, here is a scan...

So if I understand well the tunic may be a genuine pre-1969 model?

And according to this, what would be your conclusions regarding to the first questions in this thread?
