Is this a real one or a fake?

Yurasha:
I´d say is a fake. I have seen other ones and the enamel is not so red. It was also more dark and slightly brilliant than the one you show. Esteban

I am new to this hobby, but I understand that there are a lot of REALLY GOOD reproductions out there. This badge looks so genuine, it's a shame that it's a reproduction. Oh well, This is a way to learn I guess. Are there images of genuine OKDVA badges on this forum?
Thanks, Yuri |

waiting for specialists opinion, here's mine: some details aren't crisp (the hand of the rifleman for ex), the enamels work: two different colours, the one on the flag look like a restoration, the star make me think to a visor cap star! but don't forget it is only a pic (a good one indeed).
Wait for better analysis!

Guys,
I would have to agree that it's a fake. As Charlet says, the detail is far to sloppy. Also take a look at the detail in the train track. Let's hear some more opinions either for or against authenticity. Art

I won't make judgement on the piece but wanted to add a different view to this thread:
Since this badge was not produced at the mint, chances are there are at least a dozen variations... Since it was made at several factories and the striking pressure and other factors vary greatly from one to another! Just my thoughts... Rusty.

Rusty you're right, let's see more pieces to compare and determine some version of fabrication. But I still don't like the star's style...
see Durov 's book p72, the details are very crisp, the star has flat edges.

The screw-post is a concern. It apears to have a flat base attached to the screw-post itself. I think that this ia a modern phenomenon only. Does anyone know of original Soviet era badges with this type of screw-post?
Also, the spots on the back where the pins should come through look odd - like solder. Is it two-pieces or just one piece trying to look like two pieces. Shawn |
