Gold Soyombo "Hero Of Labour".

For the ones who wanted the HSL of Mongolia, order is 35mm in diameter with the symbol of Mongolia or Soyombo on the obverse. Recipients include the first woman cosmonaut V. Tereshkova of the USSR and the First Secretary of the Mongolian Communists Tsedenbal.

Gold Soyombo "Hero Of Labour".

My latest arrival, rare Labour Hero award.

Mongolians call this one Gold Soembo.

Made of 24K gold

About 200-400 awarded.

Enjoy,
William

Note low serial number of 61.

I don't think Mongolian medals and orders are expensive compared with Soviet ones and the Hero of Labour is just about their highest award.
Just hope not too many collectors jump on the band wagon.
Lovely piece and i'm still jealous.

Kingsnorth,

I don't think the Gold Soembo (Mong. Hero of Labour) is the highest Mongolian Award. I think we can compare it to the Soviet Hammer and Sickle.
I believe above it you still have the Hero of MPR, which I'd compare to the Soviet HSU Gold Star.

Just to compare prices, you can still find a Soviet H and S (boxed) for about $1,575.00. The same dealer sells a Mong. H of L for $2,480.00.

I guess you can still find a HSU Gold Star for about $5.000 to $10.000 (depending if it is just the Star or if it comes with Doc and/or box and/or CoA and/or Research...). This is a piece you have always found and can still find today.
On the other hand I never saw a Mong. Hero of MPR for sale, so no reference to compare prices that way. Would only mention that Herfurth, on his 4th edition Catalogue evaluates this piece at 9,000.00 ... EUROS... I know most of the time he overprices these Medals and Orders, but it happens that sometimes he also underprices a few. Obviously don't know about this one.

Anyway, these two Stars are far from being the most expensive Mongolian Awards!

A year or so ago, a german seller had a Hero of the MPR star on sale for 9000 euros, which is a little over 11000 US.

I guess we can say that compared to their soviet counterparts, Mongolian medals and orders are certainly not cheap. On the other hand considering the low numbers of awards actually given, e.g. +-9000 combat red banner orders (all types considered), I'd say Mongolian orders are fairly cheap.

Golden Soyombo Title

Guys,

I just wish to share with you these pics of a Golden Soyombo Medal, Type 2.
This one is different from the one posted by William above, which is the Type 1, made in USSR. The Type 2 I'm posting is made in Mongolia, a one piece Medal.

Not the nicest Mongolian Medal but still a nice piece.

Enjoy,

Dolf

Ron,

Yes, my latest purchase.
Also if only considering the price it would be the new "crown jewel", as it is now the most expensive piece I've ever bought!...
But I still like the Sukhbaatar better, or even the Soviet Nevsky, or even my only screwback Red Banner, so I guess I'll keep it temporarily then I'll see.

'Gold' Soyombo Medal

I see from Dr. Battushig book, my 'Gold' Soyombo Medal is actually gilded silver. I thought it was gold, and it certainly weights enough to be gold. It was sold to me as 23K gold by a certain NJ dealer who currently has an almost identical one for sale, but at a much inflated price and in poorer condition.

Mine is a type 1 (3.1-R) variation, yet has a serial number of 123. The type 2 (3.2-R) shown in the book has a serial number of 115, which is somewhat concerning. Were these not awarded serially? Does anyone know the date when they changed from R1 to R2?

Kind Regards,
Shane Cook.

Shane,

Are you sure you understood the book correctly?

These medals are supposed to be gold, just the suspension is gilded sterling silver.
