Glenn,
Interesting. Where did you hear that? It does make sense, even though it would be a costly venture. It would make for a nice group photo though. Are you sure it was the Kremlin and not the KGB's "dom kultura" just behind KGB HQ? I know that is where VCHK+ anniversaries have been traditionally held. Shawn |

For the 70th anniversary of the KGB, a select group of officers and veterans gathered in the Kremlin palace for this ceremony. An invitation was issued to the attendees that is similar to a postcard in size and shape. It's main color was red, with a picture of the medal on the card. On the inside of each invitation was a personalized message pertaining to the ceremony. This was a commemorative medal as to remember the event, not an official order or medal. I will try to obtain one of these invitations, as to authenticate this medal for you.

So would I!
I have an invitation from 1945, and have seen others from the 40s. They have the Distinguished NKVD Employee "egg" badge on them. I always assumed ("ass out of u and me" as the saying goes) that the 70th anniversary would show the standard 70th anniversary sword and shield badge! Shawn |

Badge "70 Years Of Cheka-KGB".
Hi guys what do you think of these.
I got them together with a presentation box for the table medal, including the table medal (+doc) though not the 70th anniv badge. The problem is that both docs seem original, but badge doc does not look like the other docs I've seen for this badge. For starters there is no stamp... Maybe this was presented to guests, who were not actually KGB members? Does the text give a clue? Thanks for your help. Jan Last edited by CtahhR; 03-13-2012 at 08:27 AM. |

I did however get this badge with the rest.
I think we discussed this badge in an earlier thread and identified it as badge given to the people invited to the reception at the Kremlin. Maybe this is what the doc is for...maybe. Last edited by vatjan; 09-23-2004 at 04:28 PM. |

Now, this is, apparantly, what a normal 70th anniv doc should look like.
Me very    |

Here is an original whose authenticity I am confident of. I also have a table medal and document from the same guy. The ones I have were presented to very senior KGB officers, like national and regional chiefs. I would be interested to see the one you have. I couldn't find the badge you shared, though. I have not encountered one of these that was presented at a meeting, although that was a common enough thing to do.
I whited out the name of the recipient with my photo editor. I have been acquiring this estate piece by piece for two years and I haven't yet shared his identity. I probably won't until I sell it. However, I don't mind sharing images when the subject comes up. Chuck Last edited by CtahhR; 03-13-2012 at 08:35 AM. |
