Interesting Flag Photograph
I've never seen anything like this and I was pleased to acquire it.
It's a hard cover document that contains a photograph of a Soviet Soldier in front of his military unit flag. My Russian language skills are not the best, but it appears to me to be an award in and of itself, an "Honor Photograph" that was an award from the political department of the unit. Perhaps a soldier who showed particular gifts with the philosophies of Marx and Lenin was honored by having his photograph taken in front of the unit flag and presented with the photo as an award? Whether this was done by any group beyond this specific unit is a mystery to me. |

Re: Interesting Flag Photograph
The honour photo near the unit banner was an official kind of encouragement
of military man in Soviet Army, both for political and military succeses. |

Re: Interesting Flag Photograph
Very much so (in agreement with everything said above). The picture shows what I think is the reverse of a unit flag from WWII. I'm not saying this is from the same flag, in terms of origin, but this picture is of an VV NKVD flag and in color. Oh, and don't worry, the .com at the end does not make it commercial - it was the option at the time that made the best sense. Have a look at Collecting Soviet History - and I am not making a shameless plug here. I just want you to see the same basic kind of flag in original condition.

Re: Interesting Flag Photograph
Phillip...
That is a very interesting website. I found the method of hanging the flags for display quite interesting. Can you say anything about that? While it would be nice if the flag were indeed for a security unit, I believe that it is simply the flag of the military unit in which this soldier served. I was actually hoping that there might be a clue to the specific unit in the "44318" designation on the document. |

Re: Interesting Flag Photograph
I went looking here http://soviet-awards.com/forum/sovie...awards-76.html for where I talked about that, but am in too much of a hurry (it's on page 75 or forward).
The trick is to have as many clamps - never tacks or nails - as possible to distribute the weight. An with using curtain rods and holders, the flag never touches the wall and can be flipped over easily. That's it in a quick nutshell. Happy Fathers' Day for those that qualify.:D Phillip
