"Vladimir Putin signed an Executive Order decorating the heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser Pyotr Veliky with the Order of Nakhimov.

The Executive Order awards the decoration to the Pyotr Veliky [Peter the Great] for the courage, dedication, and high level of professionalism the ship’s crew have shown in the performance of their military duties. "

Pyotr Veliky (Пётр Великий) is a heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser (TARKR), the fourth Kirov class battlecruiser of the Russian Navy, originally named Yuri Andropov (Юрий Андропов). Pyotr Veliky is the flagship of the Northern Fleet.

A bit garish when compared to the soviet one.

If a Russian Have something ( richness ) show this copiously

and you can see this with the new Orders

I guess I am old-fashioned. To me these are flashy but tacky.

I guess lots of money does not equal good taste.

I fully agree with you Simon, the perfect simple and unique beauty of the Soviet Orders is unrepeatable.

What gets me, is that we spend so much time looking for signs of authentic ageing and wear on Soviet pieces, that when i see modern awards and some of the later awards from the Soviet States, they just look unauthentic!

I suppose in 70 yeasr time, this order of Nakhimov will look very different still!
