Hi Doug,Those prototype Marshal boards are very awesome and great-looking!!!! I never saw those OPGW-era High-ranking shoulderboards and its artwork!!! I like those SBs much!!! impressive-looking!!! I appreciate seeing the historical Soviet high-ranking prototype shouldrboards. James:thumbsup

James, Glad you like them, I think they are some of the more unique items posted in the forum...I bet someone has artwork of orders and medals that were under development in their collections, but i have not sen any yet.

Thanks, Doug. We learn a lot about what exists (and why) by seeing the plans that were rejected. Fascinating stuff!

Thanks for posting these, Doug !

I recently read an account by a former member of Stalin's inner circle.
He wrote that during the war an officer came in with the Generalissimo uniform that had been created.

Apparently Stalin looked at all of the braid and bullion and simply asked "Who is that for?"
When the officer replied "You, Comrade Stalin", he was simply dismissed in a manner that clearly indicated that Stalin wanted nothing to do with the uniform.

I have wondered whether, after the no doubt rattled officer reported back, the uniform was destroyed since it had clearly not met with Stalin's approval? That might explain why, in the Russian-language volume on Marshals and Fleet Admirals of the Soviet Union, there are some great photographs of the Generalissimo-rank overcoat, but no uniform.

There is at least two uniforms for generalissimo, one napoleonic (or Suvorov!) fashion, high collar and longskirted, the other less flamboyant, one more pic of the second type (sorry, but I didn't remember where I found):
