The obverse shows (I hope) wavy surface under the tank, caused by the unevenly stamped number. Experienced dealers/collectors always check the front of the medal when in doubt.

Alexei,

great example!

Why would anyone fake serial number on common Bravery medal?

What can you really gain from investing that time into messing up with these numbers? The price of Bravery medal with and without document is almost the same.

William,

A numbered Bravery medal without the doc is $12-15, and a documented one will cost $22-25. This one was part of otherwise good group.

Rusty,

Hard to tell for sure, looks like there is some polishing around the number, but it could be just the angle.

The reason I ask:

It's currently on E! as part of a group...

To me the numbers look funny... with my limited exposure I have never seen this style on Red Stars...

So I was figuring it was made to fit the Orders Book.

Rusty.

Rusty,

Unless he has an iron clad money back guarantee I'd pass.

Serial number

Rusty,

I was the "lucky winner" of the Red Star that you posted.

It has indeed been modified. The amount of medal that has been removed to erase the old serial number left a noticable indentation under the new serial number. Actually I don't think much of the new serial number either.

The only good thing is that the seller will take the group back.

Wish I would have seen your post BEFORE bidding.

Alanirvine,

Thank you very much for letting us know. I guess we'll see this group for sale again soon.
