Marshal Of The Air Force Uniforms.
Hello collector friends
I need your opinion: Is this combination possible? Ribbons on the blue parade jacket (the ribbons are sewn on a blue underground - same color like the jacket) There are holes for the awards (stars etc.) on the right side. => For what occasion was this dress (combination of awards and ribbons instead of medals)? Worn with parade belt? In my opinion it is a pre 1991 uniform. What do you think? Thank you for your help! |

Re: Uniform Marshall of the AIR FORCE
Hi KDVR,
Welcome to the forum. First, I am not sure why ribbons would be on the full parade uniform, and second, there were only a few Senior Air Marshals, so you should be able to nail down who it is by the ribbons if it is OK. Lets see what Tretov has to say, he is usually best in this area. DougD |

Re: Uniform Marshall of the AIR FORCE
Hi KDVR,
I am sorry, but my opinion is that the ribbon bar is fantasy/made up; there was no air marshal that held that combination of awards (no chief marshal of aviation had seven Order of Lenin). As for the jacket, it may or may not be good. We need to remember that generals and marshals, including chief marshals, shared the same type of jackets. This means, this jacket may be a marshal made jacket, a generals jacket that has been upgraded post-1991, or a generals (or marshals) jacket that has been upgraded pre-1991 (legit upgrade). It is hard to tell from the photos, and often hard to tell anyway, sometimes post-1991 upgraded sets have the shoulder boards sloppily attached. There were just a handful of chief marshals, so more likely is that this is a post-1991 upgrade. Generally speaking of the combination, I am not sure what to call this combo rather than a fancy parade-walkout. For the marshals and generals with the huge amount of awards, one could assume this is a better choice for certain occasions where the parade uniform is called for, rather than using the gray parade-walkout set. I have attached a photo where the Club of Fanciness wear this type of combination when being awarded the Polonia Restituta. A personal thought is that this combination is also suitable when at award ceremonies and you don't want to have your other decorations outshine the one that you're about to get :) If someone has 1970s-1980s regulations on hand, please share some information on the written text of this combination. |

Re: Uniform Marshall of the AIR FORCE
I recall seeing the 1989 regulations book to show AF officers and generals with ribbons on the blue uniform as parade-walking out. I´ll confirm in a couple of weeks when I return to Santiago.
Happy New Year. :)

Re: Uniform Marshall of the AIR FORCE
Indeed has the 1988 book pics of officers wearing the ribbons on the parade jacket as their parade-walkout jacket, but at least the regulations does not mention the marshal/general rank for this combo (they had their gray parade-walkout jackets). This does of course not mean that the combination did not exist - as we know there are indeed photos showing this combo was actually used also by the higher ranks.

Re: Uniform Marshall of the AIR FORCE
In no regulations from 1969 to 1988 there's anything about parade jacket (blue for AF and wave green for GF) with ribbons - those were only for gray parade walking-out jacket. However, I have seen photographs of generals wearing their parade jackets as walking-out jackets, with ribbons instead of awards.
