Participant of the Patriotic War from the very beginning. In March 1942 whilst the enemy shelled our units and interrupted communication from the separate cannon battery, Comrade Rodionov was not disorientated, during an enemy encirclement, restored communication, to ensure timely accurate fire on the enemy. In the region of Ramushevo-Kobylkino, under heavy artillery and machinegun fire, 14 times restored communication between the command point of the section and the command of the 379th Rifle Division. During the breakthrough of a tank to the command point of the 379th Rifle Division remained alone in doing his duty until he received the order to leave the line. During the battle for Tuganovo energetically eliminated breaks in the lines along 5-7 line paths. Showing himself to be a disciplined and brave fighter of the people faithful to the affairs of the party of Lenin-Stalin and Socialist homeland. Worthy of presentation of the governmental award Medal "For Bravery".

Rodionov was positioned directly in the area corridor leading out of the Demjansk pocket. The Soviet encirclement was broken and most of the Demjansk pocket survived to fight another day.
