Looking for the Order of Victory
Last summer when I was in Moscow I went to se the Order of Viktory. I thought I would have time to look through the main museum first. But when I was going to see the order they were closing! I was too late and could not enter the diamond fund! Didn't know they closed early...
This time I will visit St Petersburg and wonder if they have one of those shiny things on display somewhere? I have one more question. Can I buy a banner or bronze stalin bust without breaking any laws? I think these items are not allowed but I have to ask. I remember that there were a lot of flags at the Arbat in Moscow. Thanks for any help /Erik |

As to the banner or bust, you can export it if it is not "an antique." What constitutes "antique" can come down to quite an arbitrary call of a border guard or customs official. The more common socialist competition banners/flags should be OK. |

Too bad there is no Order of Victory in St Petersburg. Fortunately there is alot of other interesting things to se there.
I will have to visit Moscow again then. Perhaps it would be vise not to bring back anything that looks antique. I would like to be allowed to enter Russia again. But it is hard to resist the temptation sometimes. /Erik |

Paul, Yeti,
Actually, the IS an Order of Victory in StP. It was given to the Hermitage Museum in 1985 on the 40th anniversary of WW2 victory. It is supposed to be on display in the numismatic section; however, I have not been there since the recent scandal of the stolen artifacts, so I cannot confirm if it still lies in its display case. I was going to go there if I had time left but never did.
Maybe it is easier to go and see it in London at the Imperial War Museum. /Erik |

Hi Marc,
Mind if we add this to our growing inventory of Order of Victory avatars? Please tell us what this is on in St. Pete's..light fixture?

Christophe, Art,
This example of the OoV is actually a crystal decoration in the Metro station Avtovo (line 1). I never noticed them until now as they are at the very top (about 4.5 meter high) of the crystal columns that decorate the station. Marc |
