Guys,
I'm closing this thread in order to keep it from growing any bigger. Now that China has its own section, please post known awards as their own unique posts. For unknown awards, simply post with the message title "Unknown". Hopefully one of our members will identify it and then I will edit the title. Art

Chinese railway worker to Korea?
I believe this is a Chinese medal for workers taking trains to Korea during the Korean conflict.
Is it authentic or a poor attempt at a fake??

Re: Chinese railway worker to Korea?
Hello I have this very exact medal. I traveled in the the Chinese province of Yunnan which is not as frequented as the ones in the the north or east. I found HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of different medals in these areas and I would be hard pressed to believe that they would be faking them until VERY recently and spotting fakes would be no trouble at all. Yours looks to be real but my example is a bit different. If I may ask where did you get this medal Ebay or in the China?

I think the main difference between our medals is that yours was issued to an officer. Note that your medal seems to be of a higher quality.

Re: Chinese railway worker to Korea?
Hi guys, the both medals posted above are fakes. The easy part to tell the fakes are the words on reverse side. before 1956, china uses traditional character. After 1956, china push the public to use simplified character. Your medals show the simplified character on the reverse side. So that is fake because this medal was issued in early 1950s. It is hard for western collectors. actually the quality of fakes is a lot lower than the real one. Once you see the real one, you will be able to tell. there are loads of fakes in chinese market and ebay. I feel very sad every time i see collectors showing these.

If they are indeed fakes which I am sure they are given your knowledge don't feel too bad I only spent a few cents for each medal. :)

Re: Chinese railway worker to Korea?
No problems, they were given to me with a bunch of other stuff so no big loss.

Re: Chinese railway worker to Korea?
Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone has a photo of the reverse of an original medal, this would serve to recognize the difference between the two character styles. thanks |
