Re: Fake "Defense of" Campaign Medals
I'll try to get some more pictures. But, 3aStalina, in the future, if you want more pictures I would advise you to ask me for them before you purchase the medal.

Re: Fake "Defense of" Campaign Medals
Here you go. Again, why would you buy something and only then ask for more pictures?

Re: Fake "Defense of" Campaign Medals
When this Medal is measured I wouldn't be surprised if it was 0.2 mm smaller in diameter than the recognised sizes.

thank you. my gut feeling was that it is a good medal. as you may know, the Odessa medal is one of the most faked Soviet medals, so i asked for more/better pictures to remove all doubts about this medal. i would like to see what the collector community has to say about it as well.
you speak in riddles :) does this mean you think it's a fake? thank you |

Re: Fake "Defense of" Campaign Medals
I'd advise measuring it even before considering photographs. The best "looking" fakes get the size wrong and those that are the right size are usually rather sloppy.
I'm certainly eager to hear a report on measurements.

Re: Fake "Defense of" Campaign Medals
I just measured it, 32mm. I don't have calipers or anything, but traced the medal and then measured with a ruler.

Re: Fake "Defense of" Campaign Medals
I am perfectly happy for you to post pictures and get people's opinions here. I have done so myself. My point was, the medal was up for sale for a week. Before bidding and winning it you could have asked me for more pictures and I would have added and posted them (as I did with other listings). Then based on those you could have asked for more or decided to bid.
I believe that the medal is real. I bought it in Moscow back in 1993. I bought this along with basically my whole collection from one person back then. I haven't found a single item to be fake yet (including major orders like Suvorov, Kutuzov, etc). But I'm not an expert. [QUOTE=3aStalina;247119]thank you. my gut feeling was that it is a good medal. as you may know, the Odessa medal is one of the most faked Soviet medals, so i asked for more/better pictures to remove all doubts about this medal. i would like to see what the collector community has to say about it as well. |
