post a pic.
It would be a help. But in generals it sounds like your photo if of vets, who did mount medals on the grey holiday uniform. They were allowed to basically do what they wanted to their uniforms. I saw a fully medalled grey uniform on a retired air force general back in 1998 at the monino air show.

Here is the pic. They are war veterans, and the general (who is meant to be the "main thing" in the photo) is some kind of honoured citizen of Donetsk (the text in the book said so).
The man in the background, left side, has green service uniform with awards mounted as they would be on the parade uniform. /Patrik Last edited by Tretov; 07-18-2003 at 08:03 AM. |

HSU, 2 Lenins, 2 RB, Suvorov 2, Kutozov 2, BK 2 - Very nice!

Looking closer at the man to the left behind the general - seems the shoulderboards are parade version? What a mix =)

I'd suggest the uniforms are perfectly correct: the old veteran on the left wears a parade M1958 uniform. The parade jacket is nearly identical to service one, brown havana, except for the gold shoulderboards, the collar tabs with metal and cloth, gold belt and of course...medals in full display. The visor cap has the small pre-1969 crown, the small "hard paper" visor.
very nice pic!!

Hmm... the photo is, however, post-1985.., so would he really use such an old uniform? (I don't say it is impossible, but a uniform gets quite worn by the time?)

I'd say yes it is possible...I've other pics of ukrainian veterans with m58 uniforms. The pics are of late 70' early 80', so if the vet takes his vacation before 1969 at 60...15 years of vacation, it gives 1984 year, 75 years old...

This is quite interesting :)
What I was thinking of, primarily, is that the uniform he is wearing seem to be in a very good condition, but if it was made during the 1960-ties, the tunic would be over 20 years old, but his one looks new and nice. /Patrik |
