Here is a tidy example of the Long Horizon.

Re: Medal "For The Defence Of Leningrad".
With a very clean and "fresh" document №АК63633 awarded to Ol'ga Vladimirovna Gnusina by the Executive Committee Leningrad City Deputies Of Workers on 15th May 1944.

Medal "For the Defense of Leningrad" Numbered
Please reference attached photos - s/n N 16268. As discussed elsewhere, this numbering was not done at the mint and believed to have been punched at the unit level - the number corresponding with the serial number of the certificate awarding the medal.

Re: Medal "For The Defence Of Leningrad".
Thinking about this a little - maybe it would have been easier if all the awards were uniquely numbered (or at least identified) by the same level of folks who were dishing them out. This of course leaves less work at the mints and more administration for military units. (Military units do love their administrative work though!)
