These sleeve wings are made of gold wire embroidered to a cloth patch which is sewn on to the uniform arm. It is very, very rare to see a genuine one for sale unless still attached to a uniform. Like the M35 NKVD/GUGB (state security) embroidered sleeve patch almost all the ones you see for sale separately are fakes. Beware of "large stock of unissued sleeve badges" stories.

There are WWII wings. Borisov #364 and 365 are 1943 issue Naval Aviation wings. I have a picture of an airman in M43 uniform wearing such a badge.

Borisov #298, 308 and 314 are wing shaped school badges from the immediate pre-war years.

It looks like original, however there are differencies from the other picture (the link above). Also, "not used" is not always a good sign. However, the seller has EXCELLENT reputation.

The back of the badge does look very good.

If you buy try to get a inspection/return period.

Some warnings. If the material used for the embroidery is thin and cheap and tinsely it is fake. The real thing is only metallic or silk thread. Always of good quality. If metallic, which is the most common, it really should show some tarnish at that age.

Shawn,

Thanx a lot. As a collector of German Luftwaffe items, I have seen many Pakistani copies of German qualification badges in bullion (pilot, observer, pilot/observer, aerial gunner, etc) so know a little of what to look for. Speaking from an aspect of "does the bullion appear at least old" I'd have to say yes, but of course being unfamiliar with the design I have to consult you guys. I appreciate all the help, and as I said before I'm always on the lookout for WW2 Soviet Air Force stuff should anyone have something for sale.

Wasn't there also a badge for air force technicians that I think was issued during wartime? It came in three classes. I will try and find a scan of it tommorrow.

1949/50 type

Thanks Munroe!

They are really nice badges, I do not see these types very often if at all.

They are 49.....50ties type I believe, so, yep they are old and rather tasty.

I will be posting the circa 43 Naval pilots badge next week, it will be nice to compare the two.

They certainly did produce wings

Cheers Chris
