Re: Temporary award certificate

While not exactly what I was looking for I noticed that images 1 & 3 in post #10 "for budapest" are of the exact same document that I have posted in thread http://www.soviet-awards.com/forum/s...documents.html post #5.
Notice the same 'control' number on the back: Г565269. Only the soldier's names, their officer's signatures (and presumably) the unit stamp are different.

Interesting also is your CSM certificate has no serial number assigned to it despite being awarded in 1943.

Re: Temporary award certificate

Eric,
Yes, our documents for the Budapest battle are the same with respect to the printed content. But yours seems printed on a thicker paper (like cardboard), while mine is pretty soft and thin.

For the combat service medal temporary document, I believe there is no number mentioned because this could be given before actually receiving the medal and it was not known yet what the number would be. Does this sound probable?

"Soft & thin" would be a good way to describe mine as well. Not very thick, and similar to most of the documents I have from that time frame

It's my understanding that the temp cert and the medal get passed out at the same time. See my CSM cert in post 3; it shows the medal's serial number. But obviously this isn't always the case.
Have you translated that document completly? Does it say anything specific about the number?

Re: Temporary award certificate

Hello Eric,
I still have way too many documents to go through and translate (and at my slow speed....). I haven't come yet to this one, but looking briefly at it, I don't see any mention of serial number. Maybe someone can shed more light on how it worked (whether these were always given together with awards or they could also be given before award is handed)?

Eric,

I am afraid that you got it all the wrong way. "Zasluga" means merit, not service.

Re: Temporary award certificate

Eric, I'm not ignoring this thread and am looking for some of these that I know I have - somewhere. I did find a soldier's death notice from 1943 while digging around and I didn't know I had it, so at least that's cool.:D
