Oborskij/Oborski Leonid/Leon Ivanovich, Red Army/Polish Army

Another group that could well fit in both Soviet and Polish award groups section. But this man returned to the Soviet Union in 1947, so he stays here.

First, we have the only awards that have survived with the group:
Order of the Badge of Honour nr 617378
A damaged Silver Cross of Merit (Production of "Caritas" company of 1946)
Silver "To the meritorous on the field of Glory" Medal

Photograph from the Service record, 1947.

Re: Leonid Ivanovich Oborskiy/Leon Oborski - Red Army/Polish Army

First, Let's have alook at the service record:
Born in 1917 in Rudnya-Gorodishche (wrongly written as "Rudnya-Gorodishchenskaya"), nationality Polish, no knowledge of foreign languages (hard to believe, as even if he did not speak Polish in his home, Polish classes were obligatory for all the soviet officers in the Polish Army, however, it wasn't techniclly "inostrannyi jazyk" in the USSR), of the Peasant family.
VKP(b) member since 1942.
Graduated from Hydro-melioration Technical Secondary School in 1937. Graduated from The regimental school of the Artillery Regiment (later AKKUKS - Artillery Red Banner Courses of the Improvement of the Command Personnel) in Luga in 1939
On Leningrad Front from 7.1941 till 8.1943, on 1st Belorussian Front from 8.43 till 5.1945
Awards: Soviet:
Order of the Red Star
Medal "For the Defense of Leningrad"
For Victory over Germany"
For the Liberation of Warsaw
For the capture of Berlin
Polish:
"Silver medal to themeritorous on the field of battle" (mistake in name),
Silver Cross of Merit
"For Oder, Niesse, Baltic Sea"
"For Warsaw"
(for some reason the "Victory&Freedom" medal is not listed, even though he had it already when the record was made).

Registered in Molotov RVK in Kiev

Officer ranks:
Junior Military technician (jr. lt. equivalent - interestingly, he never actually received a promotion to that rank - he graduated from AKKUKS as Squad Commander, which after re-establishment of the officer ranks should be recognised as sgt./sr.sgt., however, AKKUKS was recognised as an officer school)
Tekhnik-Leytenant 08.03.1943, Leningrad Front
Captain of the technical service 01.05.1945 Polish Army

Interestingly, it does not list his promotion to sr. lt. (porucznik) which, according to "1 Brygada Artylerii Armat" by Leonard Skibiński occurred on 3.09.1944 (Oborski is listed among the promoted, the list is based on theoriginal order).

Technical personnel, 1st class
Automobile service, specialty 173
Fit for service.
After the military service heworked in Ukrvodproek company as a head of surveyor party (?)
Bachelor.

The other side also contains some mistakes:
10.1938-11.1939 Cadet - Regimental school at the Artillery regiment in Luga
11.1939-2.1941 Deputy Platoon commander - AKKUKS, Luga
2-7.1941 In reserves.
7.1941 - 2.1942Starshina (as a function, not rank) in the 4th OTO (Technical Support Dettachment), 21 Mobile ammunition workshop, Leningrad Front
2.1942-8.1943 Chief of the 2nd OTO, same place.
8.1943-8.1944 Commander of the platoon (not mentionned, but it was the ammunition transport platoon) 1st Heavy Artillery Brogade /1st Belorussian Front/ (In fact 1st Cannon Artillery Regiment of the Polish Army)
8.1944-9.1945 Commander of the Artillery Park, same unit (in fact, it is likely another mistake, according to Skibiński, Oborski was first appointed the chief of the office of the park, and it was after he was promoted to sr. lt. - in 9.1944, although, he held that function probably for a short time befor becoming the park commander)
9.1945-3.1946 Commander of the techincal service of the 85 Heavy artillery Regiment (created on the basis ofthe Brigade's 1st unit (divizyon), the Brigade was disbanded on 8.9.1945)
3.1946-7.1947 Deputy commander forthe technical affairs in the 280 Independent Heavy Artillery Regiment (a mistake again - 85th was disbanded in February and part of it's personnel -including Oborski - was moved to the 28th Warsaw Heavy artillery unit - there were never any artillery unitwith such a high numbers in the Polish Army)
3-6.1947 In the reserve of the chief of automobile cadres of the Military Technical command of the Armed Forces.

Sent to the reserves on 3.6.1947 with the rank of captain.

As You can see, the data inj the service records is not always accurate.

A page from Skibiński's book, showing also posts held by Oborski. Listed on three different posts, all with different ranks, unfortunately, Skibiński did not provide the time table.

Re: Leonid Ivanovich Oborskiy/Leon Oborski - Red Army/Polish Army

Attached to his service record was the control card on the issue of the military ID in 1968. Interestingly, no modificationswere done to the service record on this occasion.

Let's moove to the documents:
A diploma on the Graduation from AKKUKS as a "Squad Commander"

Re: Leonid Ivanovich Oborskiy/Leon Oborski - Red Army/Polish Army

Temporary ID from 1940 certifying that he has been awarded "ready for work and defense" badge in theschool year 1938/39.

His Leningrad Medal Document

Stalin's Gratitude diploma (in Polish) for breaking the enemy defense on Bug River (a rare one - only acoupleof Polish artillery units took part in this operation, which was mainly carried out by the Red Army).
According to Skibiński, Oborski received a commandation after the battle for excellent organisation of the artillery transport.
