Hey Eric, Nice hats. Do you have any pictures of all the cap tallies behind the visors? The cap tallies are just so much easier to collect then the hat with teh tally on it. Thanks Clete

Yes I do and yes they are. :) I used to be an avid tally collector.

Just to keep this on topic in the thrid of the four images I posted in post 4 the top two tallies are Soviet.

The uppermost is a Guards tally, note the OoG-type ribbon. I believe that's for the Black Sea Fleet.

The next underneath is a school tally. I forget which one. My guess is just as the officer graduates receive a school badge the seamen get a cap band.

Eric,

The top one is written "Voenno-Morskoy Flot", which simply means Navy. But you are right in that it is a guard tally.
The next one if for the Frunze Naval Institute. This tally was worn by cadets while studying at the institute. It has nothing to do with officers or seaman rank.
