Polish Airborne/Para insignia (post WWII)

Can anyone tell me more about the attached Polish airborne/para badges?
  • Round arm badge: I understand that there have been many colour variations of the arm badge and that there were 20+ different colour combinations used by the Air Assault Division during 1967-1986. Can anyone tell me where to find out about the evolution of this badge and the different colour combinations used for the various units?
  • Breast badge: What does this badge signify and how old is it?

Also, can anyone tell me where to find out about the different versions of the instructors 'wings' over time?

I have an interest in the history of the British and Polish airborne forces, as my grandfather served in the British Airborne Forces with the Glider Pilot Regiment during WWII. In fact, assault gliders from my grandfather’s squadron (company) carried men and equipment of the 1st (Polish) Independent Parachute Brigade into battle at Arnhem, in September 1944. He also fought alongside men of the Polish Parachute Brigade during the house-to-house fighting in the Oosterbeek perimeter.

Any light shed on the above questions would be appreciated!

Re: Polish Airborne/Para insignia (post WWII)

Let me preface this by saying I am hardly an expert of Polish insignia. I was madly in love with a Polish woman at one time in grad school and ended up looking into some of the things I could from around her youth. The badges I have are all communist era security service ones and none have the style eagle in the badge you have. I have to assume that it is pre-GPW or during the war itself. What about pictures of the back and especially the screw plate. Having said that, I found the items in the picture below on the esite at "plmilitary" where he sells only Polish military items (where there is a similar badge - at least in terms of the eagle). He might be able to answer what I cannot.

Re: Polish Airborne/Para insignia (post WWII)

Hello,
The patches come from Polish 6 Airborne Division (since 1986 reduced to Brigade size).
This type patches were issued in 1965. This 2 particular patches were in use since 1976 to late 80-ties.
Green is for 10th Airborne Bn
Violet is for 8th Supply Bn.

I have over 90 different colours and production variants of this patches!

The badge is an honorary badge of 6th Airborne Brigade issued in 1991 (in use for a short period of time).

I am collecting Polish Airborne insignia.

Greetings
Rafal

Polish Airborne/Para insignia (post WWII)

Thank you very much for the information - much appreciated!

Can you tell me where I can find an explanation of all the colour (& size) variations, as well as other Polish airborne insignia?

Best regards

D.
