Here's a documented group to Georgian, Yakov Krikheli.



1. Lets start with the Military ID from the 60's. It indicates he served in the 365 Rifle Division from 1942 - 1943 and the 652 Rifle Division from 1945 through until the end of the war.

Why was he awarded the 1st class when he received no other medals during the war?

His name in Georgian is იაკობი ილის-ძე კრიხელი (Iak'obi Ilis-dze K'rixeli).

I think the flight is between Tbilisi and Baku.

He most probably got the OPW1 for his activity with the Veterans' Committee.

Hopefully I'll be able to research this gentleman some more. Once I get the Voennij Bilet translated I hope it will reveal some more about his war service.

K'rixeli is a Georgian Jewish name (which is why Georgian was crossed out and Jewish added to his military book) and many of the K'rixelis emigrated to Palestine. Unfortunately there is absolutely no mention of Jacob in Georgian on the internet. With Georgians now rarely using patronyms I also can not find any other of Elijah's children (if any) but there is a modern (1981 born) Elijah (Ilis) K'rixeli in Georgia that hinders any tracking down of the father but they will all be related to some extent (Aren't we all related?).

Getting someone to search for Jacob in Hebrew may be an idea.

There is a "Jacob Krikhely" on Hebrew Facebook who could be a direct descendant. All the transliteration with 4 alphabets gives ample chance for variations.

There is another (or this?) person mentioned here page 90. Report on the USSR.
