PDRE Wound Medal (another image)
And an interesting image of a Cuban veteran wearing the Ethiopian wound medal. Based on the suspension bar, the name would be Medal "For One Wounded on Duty.". |

Re: Medal "For Wounds In Battle".
Is the red of the heart paint, enamel or paint with a bit of epoxy over it? Can't quite make it out.

Re: Medal "For Wounds In Battle".
Here is a rather fresh Medal "For Wounds In Battle" (በግዳጅ ላይ ለቆሰለ / Bägadaǧə Layə Läḳosälä).

Re: Medal "For Wounds In Battle".
Another rather fresh example suggesting these may be old unissued stock.

Re: Medal "For Wounds In Battle".
poor epoxy enamel and the very precise loop soldering, the bronze colour are typically east-german... the cloth is specific. Mengistu was a known guest in East-Berlin, certainly commercial agreements between the two countries...

Re: Medal "For Wounds In Battle".
The cases used for PDRE and now FDRE are exactly the same specification as DDR cases. If they were produced in the DDR and have been stored in the warehouse for decades or the Ethiopians have the case making machine may be up to debate. It would certainly be easier to move a single machine than all those fragile cases but that's not always the way it goes. If stored they will of course perish with time.
Ethiopia certainly didn't borrow their suspension style or fittings from the DDR design.

Re: Medal "For Wounds In Battle".
the cloth fabric is specific, but we have no evidence for a production in GDR or Ethiopia. DDR cloth is matt; this ethiopian cloth seems slightly brillant.
